Wrexham will now face off against former rivals Stockport after it was Grimsby first.

WREXHAM had some unfinished business with Grimsby Town, and Will Boyle is eager to face off against yet another formidable foe from the Reds’ non-league days.

While Wrexham, who were promoted as champions last season, defeated the Mariners 3-0 in Saturday’s League Two match at The STóK Cae Ras, Phil Parkinson’s team suffered a painful 5-4 loss to Grimsby in the National League play-off semifinal in May 2022.

Wrexham lost to Stockport County for the championship in 2021–22, and the two teams will square off at Edgeley Park on Saturday. Will Boyle, a summer addition, is looking forward to the matchup.

The center-back stated, “There is a little bit of needle with clubs along the line. I heard about Grimsby the season before last and Stockport.

“The crowd is loud when it comes to their games, so playing Stockport will be fun.

As it has been for every game since I have been here, “I am sure the atmosphere will be brilliant, so I am looking forward to it.”

Victory over Grimsby extended the unbeaten league run to seven games and leaves Wrexham fourth in the table, three points behind leaders Gillingham.

It was arguably the best performance of the season but Boyle feels the Reds played better in the 1-0 win at Tranmere Rovers earlier this month.

“I would say it was a better performance against Tranmere personally,” said Boyle, who scored his third goal of the campaign against Grimsby.

“I thought we had a lot more control of the game at Tranmere and we could have put that game to bed in the first half.

“Obviously the scoreline was a lot more comfortable against Grimsby, in the last 10-15 minutes at Tranmere when it was 1-0 it can end up a bit of a knife-edge.

“But it was another solid performance against Grimsby, we could have put the game to bed a bit earlier than we did in the second half but it a good win.

“We are still improving as a team and I think the performance could have been better but to be winning games along the way is important.

“There is still a long way to go but if we can create a little bit of momentum which we are with three wins on the spin in the league, it is good.”
