Aston Villa could have another superstar on their hands after Rory Wilson scored four against West Brom

The first team at Aston Villa may not have played on Saturday, instead facing Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday 24 September.

But the academy ensured that there was still plenty of excitement for Villa fans, with an outstanding 7-1 win over West Brom in the Under 18s Premier League, as the Villains established their dominance over their Midlands rivals.

The seven goals for Villa came from three different goal scorers, with Jamal Jimoh and Cole Brannigan both finding the net. But it was Rory Wilson who stole the show with his four goals against the Baggies as he led Aston Villa to victory.

Wilson had already scored one hat trick this season in the league and has impressed for the Villa youth side early in the campaign as they have won three of their opening five matches, leaving them fourth in the u18 Premier League south group and only three points of first placed Fulham.

Producing goods attacking talent is becoming a bit of a habit at Villa Park, with Jacob Ramsey excelling for Unai Emery’s side, while his brother Aaron starts most weeks for Vincent Kompany’s Burnley side in the Premier League. Cameron Archer is also impressing since making the switch to Bramall Lane with Sheffield United and Kienan Davis has earned a move to Serie A.

The Scottish forward will be a way away from playing first-team football as he cuts his teeth at academy level, he could well be the next name to be keeping an eye on from the Villains academy, especially considering Ollie Watkins’ struggles in front of goal this season.

While Emery’s side had a difficult start to the Europa Conference League campaign as they were beaten 3-2 by Legia Warsaw in Poland on Thursday (21 September), that tournament often provides an opportunity for managers to have a look at some of their younger talent.

Villa’s foray into the competition may have come too soon for Wilson, he could well come close to some minutes for the first team in cup matches or at least train alongside Emery’s side.

But the young man’s age means all of that potential can be realised in good time, but should he keep scoring goals on as regular a basis as he currently is for Aston Villa’s academy sides, Wilson is more than likely a name we’ll be hearing a lot more of in the coming years.
