Hull City defender faces uncertain MKM Stadium future after making deadline day exit

The boyhood Tigers fan and academy graduate was allowed to leave on deadline day in the summer transfer window

Brandon Fleming admits he’s unsure what the long-term future holds at Hull City after making a deadline day move to League One side Shrewsbury Town.

Fleming had fallen down the pecking order at City under boss Liam Rosenior, who brought in both Ruben Vinagre and James Furlong during the summer transfer window, having turned down the chance to sign George Cox following his week-long trial with the Championship club.

The left-back and boyhood City fan is spending the duration of the campaign at the New Meadow after finishing last season out on loan at Oxford United, but will still have two years left on his MKM Stadium deal at the end of the season when he returns to East Yorkshire.

“I joined Hull at the age of 10 and I’ve been there ever since. I’ve always supported them. When you’re aged 10 to about 13, all academy kids get free tickets to home games, so I was watching them in the Premier League,” the 23-year-old defender said.

“After I turned 14, I started as a ballboy for them when they were back in the Prem. I joined their scholarship programme when I was 16 and made my first team debut against Doncaster in the EFL Cup.

“I played over an hour and it was a great experience playing for my boyhood club. It made me hungrier to secure my place in the squad. The club means a lot to me. They’ve developed me not only as a player but also to be a good person. I’ve spent 13 years there now.”

“I’ve still got two years left on my deal at Hull. Hopefully, we have a successful season here and hopefully, Hull can push for the play-offs so we’re all in a good place when I go back at the end of the season.”
