Following events involving flares and missiles against Tranmere Rovers, the manager of Crawley Town had this warning for the team’s fans.
Scott Lindsey, the manager of Crawley Town, has spoken on the situation that forced the team to apologize to Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.
The team expressed regret to the opposing team and their goalkeeper Luke McGee after Ronan Darcy’s equalizer in Saturday’s League Two match at the Broadfield Stadium caused missiles to be hurled at him.
The club issued a statement in which it stated that anyone discovered to have thrown a missile would be permanently barred from the field and that the incident might have forced the game’s cancellation. The team might now be subject to a fine, a point deduction, or even a stadium shutdown, they claimed.
“Anyone found to be throwing missiles of any kind onto the field of play will be permanently banned from the Broadfield Stadium and may face wider football bans,” the club added in the statement. “The club has already launched an internal investigation.”
Chris Baker, the club’s safety officer, also sent a letter to the supporters via the club’s website after the incident, saying he was “not willing to tolerate” what he had witnessed and calling it “frankly embarrassing.”
The incidents spoiled what would have been another fantastic day for Lindsey and his squad, who currently sit sixth in League Two after picking up another three points. Lindsey has always appreciated the fans, but she has now urged those in charge to be “sensible” and refrain from interfering with the team’s operations.
We constantly strive for a positive atmosphere, and in his opinion, they do so even without using flares or hurling objects at the goalkeeper. “We don’t have to do that to set the mood at
“From a football perspective, when we scored and the flare appeared on the field, we wanted to kick off the game right away because we believed we had them at that time.
“That momentum was destroyed by the flare landing on the field. The supporters have been fantastic, so I don’t want to berate them, but I do believe we need to be reasonable and I want them to understand that they don’t need to act in such a way in order for the atmosphere to exist. We already have a fantastic environment.
“Especially with the way we play, we don’t want a break in play, and we want the game to flow really quickly.”
Lindsey likewise urged followers to
We were patient, Lindsey remarked. Teams may occasionally come here to bank up and sit in because we will be so dominant with the ball, especially at our place. I only beg for supporters’ understanding when it comes to the players. They must use the same patience as the players.
There will be times when that strategy won’t work and you won’t win by playing that way, but we won’t alter; we’ll keep doing what we’re doing.
This Saturday, Reds are away against Grimsby Town.
