Green Bay Packers Linked To Star With 86 Career Starts After NFL Trade Deadline

The Green Bay Packers ended up being sellers at the trade deadline this year.  A fairly surprising trade saw the Packers ship DB Rasul Douglas and a fifth-round pick to the Buffalo Bills for a third-round pick in return.  The trade, to many fans, signified that the Packers are accepting that they are either in rebuild or at least admitting that they won’t be competitive this year.

Receiving a third-round pick for Douglas means the Packers will have five picks in the first three rounds of the 2024 draft.  While that means the Packers can still keep building through the draft, the team may be interested in adding someone this season to keep the pressure off Jordan Love.

According and article by AtoZ Sports:

Collins is a low-floor, high-ceiling option. He’s not what he once was anymore because of a sequence of knee injuries, but if the Packers feel confident he can be healthy enough, his versatility to play as tackle or guard is intriguing.

Currently, Pro Football Network ranks the Packers with the 19th best offensive line through eight weeks.  Quarterback Jordan Love has been sacked at least once in six of Green Bay’s seven games so far.  He has been sacked more than once in three of those games.  Twice he has been sacked four or more times.

Getting veteran help along the offensive line would make sense even if it was to help Love’s progression this year.  The next 10 games of Love’s career in Green Bay will tell the front office a lot and will likely play a huge role in Love’s future with the team.  Getting him protection to make plays and have an opportunity to show what he can do is vital for everyone involved.

Collins has played in 89 career games, starting 86 of them.  That kind of experience along the offensive line would be extremely beneficial.
