Browns Announce 2 Roster Moves Ahead Of Texans Game
The Cleveland Browns have endured a litany of injuries this season.
Cleveland has had 18 players on injured reserve this season, which ranks sixth in the NFL this season, per Spotrac.
However, the quality of those players is the highest in the league, with 25.78 percent of the team’s salary cap on the list.
So, the Browns have needed to promote players from the practice squad to provide necessary depth each week and continued to do so this week with two transactions ahead of Cleveland’s Week 16 match with the Houston Texans, according to KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson.
Tanner McCalister is an undrafted rookie safety out of Ohio State who’s been with the Browns’ practice squad for most of the season.
Charlie Thomas III is an undrafted rookie linebacker out of Georgia Tech who’s also been with the Browns all season, but he’s played in two regular-season games this year – both on special teams.
Neither player will likely have much of an affect on the game, but they’ll both provide special teams help and depth in case of more injuries.
The team already announced it’ll be without safety Juan Thornhill, linebacker Anthony Walker Jr., and special teams linebacker Jordan Kunaszyk.
D’Anthony Bell will likely start in Thornhill’s place once more with McCalister as the immediate backup, while Thomas III would be a reserve linebacker with Walker and Kunaszyk out.
The Browns are looking to clinch their first postseason bid for the first time since 2020 with a win, though they can also secure a spot if a few other teams lose in Week 16
