An “exceptional” player joins a National League team from Leeds United, Barnsley, and Rotherham United.
Neil Redfearn, a former manager of Leeds United, has rejoined the coaching ranks with Oldham Athletic of the National League.
The 58-year-old is well-known in Yorkshire, where he served as manager of teams including Leeds, Rotherham United, and Sheffield United Women.
With almost 300 appearances for the Reds during his playing career, he was also a Barnsley legend.
Oldham are currently being led on an interim basis by Steve Thompson, Redfearn’s former assistant during his time in the Leeds dugout.
Now that the positions have been turned, Redfearn has come to Oldham to help Thompson with his responsibilities as interim manager.
I’m really happy to have Neil on board; he’s a great coach and someone I’ve known and trusted my entire career, said Thompson.
“Redders and I both progressed through the ranks at Bolton together; we were both apprentices when we made our debuts, so I’ve known him for a while.
“He is very well-respected already at Oldham and as a coach he is a big asset for both myself and the club.
“We were manager and assistant at Leeds and we’ve always kept in touch. He knows how to get the best out of players and I’m delighted to have him alongside Paul Murray and Steve Collis.”
