But what pleases the most is the versatility that Garner is giving Everton. The 18-cap England U21 gem has turned out regularly on the right wing this term. He also made a few appearances out wide last season but mostly featured in the centre after joining for £15m.

Dyche told his press conference: “His adaptability is very pleasing. He is a player that can use that wisely – and he does. He is growing into what he is, and that is a very good player.”

Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Phillips to quit Manchester City and join Everton or West Ham in a January transfer. He believes the midfielder must now accept it is time to leave Etihad Stadium after Pep Guardiola snubbed Phillips whilst Rodri served a three-game suspension.

Everton are interested in a transfer for Phillips, who joined Manchester City for £45m in July 2022. Luke Edwards reports that the Toffees would ‘definitely’ like to pursue his signature in the mid-season window. But questions remain over whether he would consider the switch.

The 27-year-old, who John Stones has also called ‘outrageous’, has only played 167 minutes with City this season. His plight follows Phillips only featuring for 593 minutes last term after joining from Leeds. So, Agbonlahor fears for his hopes of making England’s Euro 2024 side.

“If he wasn’t sure about his future before that game, he knows now,” Agbonlahor has told Football Insider. “If I’m him, I want to play football. He’s a young lad with a lot of years left.

“Join Everton or West Ham and just play football because otherwise, you are going to affect your England chances.”
