As Sunderland has formally decided to sign stunning ace from a rival, one practical signing from a rival to help the club in January

One realistic signing from a rival to improve Sunderland in January

Sunderland have had a great start to the season, but the January window will allow for additions, but who could be signed from a rival?

Although there hasn’t been a lack of goals scored by the Black Cats so far this season, a senior striker should be considered in the window.

Right now the only true striking options are Mason Burstow and Luis Hemir. Although they are promising, they aren’t guaranteed goalscorers.

With that being said, the signing of a more experienced striker could help to take Tony Mowbray’s side forward.

Ross Stewart was sold over the summer and with no direct replacement coming in, January poses an opportunity to get that.

Who is a realistic player that Sunderland could sign from a rival?

Ryan Hardie

Right now, Sunderland are opting towards signing young talent and look to develop them, but some experience is needed.

Hardie is only 26, so definitely isn’t too far outside of the market that the Black Cats are looking to shop in.

The striker has played for Rangers, Blackpool and now Plymouth and has been prolific in recent years.

n 11 games this campaign he has five goals and three assists. His side currently sit in 18th place in the Championship.

He is a poacher but has much more to his game. Comfortable playing in a front two, lining up with Morgan Whittaker for Argyle.

Alongside some of the young talent in the North East, he could help develop those around him.

His passing is strong and allows him to contribute in ways other than just scoring.

The Scotsman only signed a new deal in the summer which may see his club demand a higher fee.

With that being said, a fee below £5 million is likely to be demanded. For a player with 30 goals in his past two seasons, it is worth a go.
