Leicester City made to work as they warm up for Leeds United showdonw with another victory

A round-up of how the Championship’s other promotion wannabes got on this weekend following Leeds United’s emphatic victory against Huddersfield Town

Leeds United warmed up for their Friday night clash against Leicester City in perfect style in their Saturday early Championship kick-off, with a rampant first-half four-goal display seeing off a hapless Terriers side. Even though the clocks are yet to go back, Leeds find themselves in a situation where they cannot allow the top two to gain any more points on them, given the blistering start to the season of Leicester and Ipswich Town.

Next week’s trip to the King Power Stadium will have been circled on the calendar of many Leeds fans as it promises to be one of the most high-profile second-tier matches of the entire campaign. And while Leeds will head into the showdown under the Friday night lights full of confidence, so will the Foxes after they claimed a 13th win from their 14 Championship fixtures so far.

However, Enzo Maresca’s side were made to work for their win over QPR at Loftus Road, with their winner coming in the 80th minute through Harry Winks after QPR had been reduced to ten men just before the hour mark after Andre Dozzell was dismissed for a second bookable offence. This was their ninth win in a row, which is a new club record.
