‘Become awkward’: Tottenham told senior trio in difficult situation inside dressing room

‘BECOME AWKWARD’: TOTTENHAM TOLD SENIOR TRIO IN DIFFICULT SITUATION INSIDE DRESSING ROOM

Alasdair Gold has shared how things could now become ‘awkward’ for the likes of Eric Dier, Hugo Lloris and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg inside the Tottenham dressing room.

All three seemingly don’t have a future at Tottenham, two of them haven’t featured in a matchday squad this season, whilst Hugo Lloris expressed a desire to leave this summer, as Football London journalist Gold spoke about on his YouTube channel.

Regardless of their situations, all three stayed at Tottenham this season, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg the only one earning minutes and Eric Dier possibly an injury away to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven to returning to the XI.

But with Tottenham recently naming and confirming their 25-man Premier League squad, all three were included, even Lloris.

Last season, the now-retired France international was the club’s number one, but now he is behind new number one and summer signing Guglielmo Vicario and even Fraser Forster.

Postecoglou has named a new leadership group inside the club, with Son Heung-min now the captain, Cristian Romero and summer signing James Maddison deputising him.

“It’s very interesting that you now have three of those leadership groups, Lloris, Hojbjerg and Dier, all there now, but it no leadership role whatsoever,” said Gold.

“It’s going to be a good test of their professionalism, that they are kind of their as unofficial experienced types who will look to lead by example.

“But I think it will then become awkward if they then try to lead in, not in an official way, but be more vocal and talking over the actual captains. That’s going to be a fascinating dynamic to see.

“Postecoglou has been very clear that the dressing room has to govern itself. He has given them trust to do that and then he will step in if things aren’t right. It will be interesting to see how Maddison, Romero and Sonny, as the trinity of captains now essentially take charge of the group that includes some of their previous bosses.”

Tottenham need to move deadwood on

From the 2023 summer transfer window, this would have been the most frustrating part for the fans.

Yes, they were gutted to see their star man Harry Kane leave and you can always add more faces and quality to your squad.

But it has been clear for a while that these players, such as Lloris, Dier, Ben Davies and Hojbjerg, either aren’t good enough, no longer wanted or want to move on.

Yet, they stayed put and are eating up at the wage bill, which just results in Daniel Levy keeping his foot on the brakes when it comes to spending.
