‘For the first time’: Sean Dyche now issues injury update on ‘brilliant’ Everton star ahead of Merseyside derby
Everton are still facing a few injury problems ahead of the Merseyside Derby on Saturday, but they may be able to welcome back Seamus Coleman in the coming weeks.
The defender has been absent since May with a knee injury, but he has now made progress in his recovery.
Coleman is Everton’s club captain, although at 35, he is beyond his best years. Nevertheless, he is a club hero who will bring a wealth of experience and leadership to the dressing room when he returns.
Sean Dyche issues Seamus Coleman update
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, manager Sean Dyche confirmed that whilst Coleman is unavailable for Saturday’s derby, he may be able to return soon.
“Seamus is on the grass for the first time but he’s only had one day, so he needs time obviously after a long period out so long,” Dyche stated.
“A lot of the players have come back fit and well, which we’re pleased about on the international side of things.”
Seamus Coleman’s importance to Everton
Although some may argue that Coleman’s age and fitness problems mean he should not be a regular any more, it says a lot about both the defender and the club that they will be eager to welcome him back.
