They can clean up some of those issues against the Bears this Sunday. The Bears are 29th in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game and 25th in the NFL in total yards allowed per game. They have also allowed 29.3 points per game, tied for the third-most in the league.
This game is an opportunity for the Raiders to put up points and discover why the offense hasn’t been able to move the ball so far this season.
A couple of the Bears’ key defense contributors are also dealing with injuries. On Wednesday’s injury report, defensive end Yannick Ngakoue and safety Eddie Jackson were both limited participants. If those two cannot go, the Raiders will avoid facing two of the Bears’ best defenders.
Coach Matt Eberflus runs a 4-3 base defense and primarily runs zone coverage. The Bears have not been able to get to the quarterback this season and have produced just nine sacks through six games. The Bears’ defensive line unit is young and has not been able to win the line of scrimmage often this season.
However, the Bears’ linebacker group is among the best in the NFL. T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds have formed one of the best duos in the league, and second-year man Jack Sanborn has been impressive since going undrafted in 2022.
The Bears’ secondary has good pieces but has not performed well as a unit overall. Cornerback Jaylon Johnson and safety Jaquan Brisker are young building blocks for Chicago’s secondary, but they are looking for answers beyond those two.
The Raiders, coming off of two straight victories, have a chance for a third and, more importantly, can fix long-term offensive issues against a Bears team that has allowed many points to opposing teams this season.
The Silver and Black will head on the road to take on the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 1:05 p.m. EDT/10:05 a.m. PDT.
