Blackburn Rovers boss provides Adam Wharton injury update

Jon Dahl Tomasson is hopeful Adam Wharton’s groin injury is not a serious problem.

The Blackburn Rovers midfielder was forced off just minutes into the second half in what looked like a pre-discussed change. Sondre Tronstad was intrdocuced just three minutes after the game had restarted.

Tomasson revealed that Wharton had complained about tightness in his groin at half-time but wanted to test it out in the second half. However, in a bid to avoid any further injury, he decided to come off.

The Rovers head coach is hopeful he came off in time to prevent any significant damage. It’s too early to say but there’s hope it is just a niggle and he could be involved against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

“At half-time, he said he could feel his groin a little bit,” Tomasson explained. “After, it was a bit cold at half-time and he said it was getting tight.

“He could feel it and hopefully we got there on time with Adam. We all know he is a very good player.”

Tronstad came on for his biggest Championship involvement since the opening-day win over West Brom. He was a late substitute against Leicester City but got almost a whole half to showcase his qualities at Coventry.

The midfielder did well, winning the ball back on several occasions and making important interceptions. He also played a lovely ball over the top of the defence to create Rovers’ biggest chance, which Arnor Sigurdsson hit straight at Ben Wilson.

“He on for almost a half and I think he solved the problems quite good,” Tomasson said. “I thought he did well, I’m happy with how he played today.”
