Blackburn rovers ratings as defence improve but attack struggles

Leopold Walhstedt

Calm on the ball and dealt with the routine saves he had to make well. Potentially one crucial tip onto the crossbar to deny Eccles. Couldn’t do anything about the goal. 7

James Hill

Slotted in at right-back in a slightly unfamiliar role. Almost opened the scoring with an excellent strike from range that rattled the bar. 7

Hayden Carter

Justified his selection with a much better performance. Handled Simms well. 7

Dom Hyam

Rock-solid alongside Carter. They barely gave either of the Coventry strikers a sniff. 7

Callum Brittain

Moved into midfield a lot to give Rovers an extra man in the middle. Lively performance. 7

Adam Wharton

A better half, from a point of view. Got stuck in and won the ball back for his team. Taken off just after half-time with a knock. 7

Joe Rankin-Costello

Started in central midfield for the first time this season and was tidy on the ball. Would’ve liked to have seen some more of those lung-busting runs in the right channel. 6

Andrew Moran

Thought he’d scored only to be denied after the referee ruled it out after speaking to the linesman. Not quite as effective as aginst Leicester. 6

Dilan Markanday

Looked bright in some moments and went quiet for periods. Hasn’t really grabbed his two starts by the scruff of the neck. 6

Tyrhys Dolan

Some nice tricks and bits of quick feet to get out of tight spaces but not enough punch in the final third. 6

Sam Szmodics

A quiet performance from Szmodics, who is more involved when he plays deeper, rather than as a false nine. Worked his socks off for the team. 6

Substitutes:

Tronstad (Wharton, 49′)

Looked good when he came on with several important tackles and interceptions. A lovely ball over the top for Sigurdsson too. 7

Lewis Travis (Rankin-Costello, 69′)

Added some fresh legs in the engine room. 6

Arnor Sigurdsson (Markanday, 69′)

Spurned a golden chance after latching on to Tronstad’s through ball. Uncharacteristically poor finish from him. 6

Semir Telalovic (Dolan, 86′)

Brought on as a late sub after Coventry scored. N/A

Unused substitutes: Hilton, Wharton, Pickering, Garrett, Ennis.

Referee: Jeremy Simpson
