Angels Looking To Poach AL West Rival’s Ace This Offseason, Says Insider

The Angels may be big-game hunting this offseason.

The Los Angeles Angels may be big-game hunting this offseason, as they look to get themselves back into a place of contention. The team hasn’t seen the postseason since 2014, and they are likely to lose two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani this winter.

Jordan Montgomery Gives The Rangers A Fighting Chance In The ALCS

But that isn’t stopping them from looking around the league for talented starting pitching help. Jeff Fletcher of The Orange Country Register has linked former Texas Rangers ace Jordan Montgomery with the Angels on the open market.

Montgomery was one of the main reasons why the Rangers went on to win the 2023 World Series. He was special for the team during the playoffs, and the Angels likely envision him doing the same for them down the line.

He has been incredible throughout his career in the postseason, posting an ERA of 2.63 over eight appearances. Montgomery seems to get better when the lights are brightest, and the Angels need someone just like that to lead them.

Blue Jays emerging as surprise entrant in Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes

Landing a pitcher like Montgomery won’t be cheap, but the Halos have been willing to shell money out in free agency before. He would become their front-line starter, and they could build around him for years to come.

Not only would the Angels get Montgomery for themselves, but they would weaken a division rival. The AL West is hard enough to compete in for the Halos, and getting Montgomery onto their roster would be massive.
