The transition from ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ to ‘Mr. MVP’ could become a reality for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy as a remarkable season continues.

Purdy was taken last in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Iowa State – earning the title of ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ that is given to every final pick of the draft – but quickly was handed the reins of the Niners offense last season after injuries to QBs Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo.

This year, he’s had the whole season at the helm and it’s paid off – with Purdy now the odds on favorite to win the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award.

After his dominant performance on Sunday in a win over the league-leading Philadelphia Eagles, Purdy is sitting on +350 odds to win the NFL’s top player honor.

Jalen Hurts

He’s just ahead of two other NFC quarterbacks that are tied with +400 odds: Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys and the Eagles’ Jalen Hurts.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson sits in fourth with +650 odds and Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes rounds out the top five at odds of +700.

Even in just his second season in the league, it’s likely that Purdy is already the greatest Mr. Irrelevant of all time – with his closest competition being retired kicker and Super Bowl champion Ryan Succop

Purdy already holds the honor of being the first Mr. Irrelevant to complete a forward pass, complete a touchdown pass, and being the first QB to rush for a touchdown.

Currently, Purdy leads the league in both passer rating and QBR. He’s seventh in the league in passing yards, fourth in passing touchdowns, and has the second best touchdown-interception ratio in the league.

San Francisco is now 9-3 and in pole position for the NFC West title with just five weeks left in the regular season.

That included last night’s win, where Purdy completed 19-of-27 passes for 314 yards and four touchdowns.

The Niners will host the division rival Seattle Seahawks next Sunday
