Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden has emerged as a potential target for newly promoted Luton Town.
Hayden still has three years left on his contract with Newcastle, but is training with the Under-21s side after being deemed surplus to requirements by manager Eddie Howe.
After gaining promotion in a dramatic play-off final against Coventry City, Premier League new boys Luton have been looking to strengthen their squad after a winless start to the season.
Rob Edwards’ side have already secured the services of former Chelsea and Nice midfielder Ross Barkley and Manchester United academy product Tahith Chong, but are eyeing up a move for Hayden to bolster their defence.
The Englishman has not played a game for the Magpies since the 2021/22 season, spending the last campaign on loan at Championship side Norwich City.
Luton have endured a difficult start to life in the Premier League, losing to Brighton and Chelsea, but are looking to build their squad further.
As well as bringing in Barkley and Chong, the Hatters have signed two goalkeepers in Tim Krul and Thomas Kaminski and have completed a £5m transfer for Wolves winger Ryan Giles.
Hayden came through the academy ranks at Arsenal before joining Hull City on loan and then Newcastle permanently in 2016.
The midfielder has scored six goals in 151 appearances for Newcastle, winning the championship with the Magpies and gaining promotion to the Premier League.
