I want to be a United player': James Garner spells out ambitions | Tour 2022 | Manchester United

James Garner and Cafu react as Nottingham Forest promotion hero signs for EFL club

Nottingham Forest promotion hero Djed Spence has joined Leeds United from Tottenham Hotspur and some of his old teammates have reacted.

The Reds couldn’t snare the right-back on a permanent deal last summer, with the 22-year-old setting his heart on a move to play for Tottenham.

His decision has backfired somewhat. The Reds didn’t think he was worth the £15 million that Spurs paid for him and his move to North London has been a nightmare.

Antonio Conte basically said from the outset that he was one for the future and he’s now failed to impress Ange Postecoglou as well.

Leeds does look like a good move for him. Spence knows what it takes to get out of the Championship and he looks like a coup for Daniel Farke.

Spence made 44 appearances for Forest as they won promotion during 2021/22. He found a home at the City Ground and it was such a shame that he couldn’t return.

Forest have moved on though. Last season as the club remained in the Premier League, Spence made just four appearances for Tottenham.

The man who starred for the Reds during 2021/22 has taken to Instagram to speak of his pride at signing for Leeds.

He’s received a message of support from James Garner who is now at Everton following a £15 million move. He simply wrote: “Good luck brother.”

Also reacting was Cafu. He signed for Rotherham in the summer and he simply said: “My guy”, posting two emojis alongside his message.

It will be hard to see Spence strutting his stuff in the Championship again for some Forest fans.

Earlier in the summer it was claimed that Tottenham might offer Spence in their deal to try and prise Brennan Johnson away from the City Ground.

Forest don’t really need any more right-sided full-backs, however, and now it will be intriguing to see how gets on at Leeds.
