3 managers Tranmere Rovers should consider to replace Ian Dawes
Tranmere Rovers have parted company with Ian Dawes over the weekend following their 2-0 away loss at Colchester United.
Tranmere Rovers have placed former Southampton and Hull City boss Nigel Adkins in interim charge as they hunt for a new manager.
It has been a slow start to the new League Two season for the Birkenhead outfit and they find themselves in 22nd position after just one win in their opening seven matches.
Here is a look at three managerial candidates that they should consider now…
Darrell Clarke
The 45-year-old is available and will be weighing up his next move in the game. He has been promoted to League One twice before having guided both Bristol Rovers and Port Vale out of the fourth tier in the past.
Clarke, who has also had a spell at Walsall in the past, took over at Vale Park in February 2021 and won the play-offs in 2022 after beating Mansfield Town in the final. However, he was sacked in April of this year after a poor run of form.
David Artell
He has been out of the game since his departure from Crewe Alexandra in April last year. Artell, who spent his playing career as a defender for the likes of Rotherham United, Morecambe and Northampton Town, spent just over five years in charge of the Railwaymen.
The ex-Gibraltar international won 35.6% of matches in charge of the Cheshire outfit and guided them to automatic promotion back in 2020, as well as securing Manager of the Year in the same campaign.
Nigel Adkins
Tranmere have turned to the experienced coach in caretaker charge and he could become a candidate for the permanent position if he does well. He joined the club in the summer as Technical Director.
His best achievement was securing back-to-back promotions with Southampton from League One to the Premier League.
