The Green Bay Packers may have a new defensive coordinator sooner rather than later after Sunday’s brutal loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. CBS Sports reported that Baker Mayfield became the first visiting quarterback ever with a perfect Passer Rating (158.3) at Lambeau Field.

In total, he completed 22 of 28 passes for 381 yards and four touchdowns, with no interceptions. Mayfield played one of his best games in his career. Fans have been calling for Joe Barry’s dismissal from the team for weeks now, however, that has escalated today. As it turns out, one former Packers star has surfaced as a possible replacement.

Locked on Podcast host Peter Bukowski labeled former Packers cornerback Al Harris as someone who could be the new defensive coordinator in Green Bay.

I’m not generally into wish-casting for reunions being a good idea just because they’re reunions, but I’d be up for Al Harris as the next DC in Green Bay.

You knew from his days as a player he could be a good coach someday.

Mix of defensive backgrounds too.

Al Harris was a great cornerback in the NFL during his 14-year playing career. After short stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Philadelphia Eagles, he found himself at home with the Green Bay Packers. He spent seven seasons with the Packers and was named to the All-Pro team in 2007. He also earned pro bowl honors that year.

After he retired from the league, Harris spent one year as a coaching intern with the Miami Dolphins (2012). From 2013 to 2018 he was a secondary/defensive assistant with the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 2020 Harris reunited with head coach Mike McCarthy (with whom he spent five seasons with in Green Bay) as the defensive backs coach.

Throughout his career, Harris played in 194 games, starting 128 of those. He retired with 140 pass breakups 21 interceptions and 3 defensive touchdowns, per Pro Football Reference.
