Ipswcih Town: Cieran Slicker excited to face Spain Under-21s
Cieran Slicker is excited to join up with Scotland Under-21s to showcase what he’s learned from his time at Ipswich Town.
The Oldham-born goalkeeper, who’s eligible to represent Scotland through his Glasgow-born father, has been included in Scot Gemmill’s squad to face Spain at the Estadio de la Victoria in Jaen.
La Rojita finished as runners-up in the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, losing to England in the final.
Slicker’s lates call-up comes after an impressive start to life at Portman Road, having featured regularly in pre-season and in the Blues’ two Carabao Cup ties. He kept a clean sheet against Bristol Rovers, winning the Man of the Match award in Town’s first-round fixture.
He admitted that he’s learned a lot from his time in Suffolk so far, explaining that the break will allow him to bring new skills to the international stage.
“I’m on eight or nine caps now, I think,” he said.
“It’s always nice to get those call-ups and play for my national team. It’s really good and exciting almost, because these are different challenges.
“The club stuff is obviously good, playing these games, but then going away is almost a different type of football. Adapting to their ways, but also bringing my style and the things from my club.
“It’s good and I love it every time. We’re going to play Spain, so that’s a massive challenge for us. I can’t wait.”
