Atlanta Falcons’ Arthur Smith Must Navigate ‘Unique’ New Orleans Saints TE Taysom Hill

Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith opens up about the struggles New Orleans Saints’ versatile offensive player Taysom Hill has presented his defense over the years.

This week, the Atlanta Falcons (4-6) will play its NFC South divisional rival, the New Orleans Saints, which currently sit atop the standings with a record of 5-5 and attempt to end a three-game losing streak coming off of a bye week.

In order for the Falcons to defeat the Saints, though, the team must stop the Saints’ Swiss army knife on offense, Taysom Hill.

“He can do a lot back there,” Atlanta head coach Arthur Smith said. “He can push the ball down the field if they want to get him in the play-action game. They’ve got the direct run package. It’s amazing how all of our brains work because I can think of all of the bad plays – good for him, but bad against us. He’s done that a lot. He’s a very unique player.”

At 6-2 and weighing roughly 220 pounds, Hill is built like a tight end, has the power of a running back, and the arm of a quarterback. All three positions are ones that he’s capable of playing on any given snap.

Over seven seasons, Hill has continued to perplex opposing defenses while recording over 3,200 yards from scrimmage as a kickoff returner, wide receiver, quarterback, running back, and tight end.

So far this year, Hill has played 42 percent of snaps on offense, the third-highest percentage of his career.

Hill may not be a Pro Bowler at any single position, but come Sunday in Atlanta, the Falcons must keep an eye on him and any potential wrinkles he could add to the game in order for Atlanta to keep its playoff hopes alive.
