Cease took a slight step back in 2023 after being second in the American League Cy Young Award race in 2022. He made a career-high 33 starts for the White Sox in 2023, posting a 7-9 record and a 4.58 ERA. He gave up 46 more hits in seven fewer innings of work for the Sox, which resulted in a modest decrease in strikeouts per nine innings, but an increase in walk-off average (WHIP) from 1.11 to 1.42.

Although Cease is only 27 years old and has a few more years of team control left, he is still a valuable commodity in the market, and teams will probably be prepared to pay a significant amount of prospect capital to sign him.
