Arsenal set to hand Blackburn Rovers important windfall after latest transfer decision
Blackburn Rovers are set to benefit financially from Arsenal’s transfer activity
Blackburn Rovers are in line for a windfall of around £3million with Arsenal set to complete the signing of David Raya.
Rovers sold the Spaniard to Brentford in 2018 for around £3m. The goalkeeper has gone on to become a Premier League star and now looks set to join the Gunners. Lancs Live understands the sell-on clause in Raya’s deal is 12.5 per cent of any profit made by the Bees.
Arsenal have now sanctioned Matt Turner’s move to Nottingham Forest, paving the way for Raya’s move. He will compete with Aaron Ramsdale for the number one spot.
Raya’s move to Arsenal will be in the region of £30m, which means Rovers will earn around £3m from the deal. It comes as a welcome boost to the club, who need to raise funds to strengthen their squad in the transfer market.

Thomas Kaminski and Ash Phillips have been sold for a combined figure of around £4.5m. So far the club have made four signings, with new goalkeeper Leopold Wahlstedt the only player they have paid a fee for
Jon Dahl Tomasson wants to sign a striker this summer with proven Championship experience. Raya’s imminent move to the Emirates Stadium will only aid those hopes.
Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire last week, chief executive Steve Waggott said: “It’s a confidential document but it’s a substantial amount. It’s as high as any deal that I have ever done.”
On whether the money made from player sales could be reinvested, he explained: “With the constraints, if they can’t give me the full budget, that money has to be balanced between on and off the field.
“There will be money, I can’t say the exact number, it’s case-by-case. We are signing a GK for a fee, not a really low fee. Jon wants a striker, lots of work is going on to get us an appropriate striker within the budget to add goals to the team
