‘Back into the thinking’: Sean Dyche suggests ‘fantastic’ player could play for Everton vs Aston Villa

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could return to the Everton squad this weekend.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Sean Dyche admitted that the striker is back in his plans and could be available to take on Aston Villa.

Calvert-Lewin hasn’t featured in a competitive game of football since the Toffees’ 1-1 draw with Wolves three months ago, though has made a handful appearances this summer.

Following a series of injuries over the past couple of years, the forward has been desperate to return to full fitness and played the full 90 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly against Manchester United earlier this week.

Despite being left out of the squad for Everton’s opening day defeat to Fulham, Calvert-Lewin could return to Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

“Dom is in good shape,” Dyche said. “He managed to get the end part of his rehab done this week with 90 minutes – he certainly comes straight back into the thinking.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin may not be ready to start for Everton this weekend, however his presence will give the Toffees a huge boost.

Neal Maupay really struggled against Fulham and it is quite clear that he isn’t going to get the goals the Toffees need to get points on the board, with the Frenchman closing in on a year since his last and only goal for the club.

Everton have a huge task on their hands as they face Aston Villa and already look to be without Arnaut Danjuma and Dwight McNeil, so fans will be hoping that DCL is ready to go and can cause their defence some problems.
