Birmingham City boss John Eustace breaks silence on John Ruddy to Luton Town transfer

Latest Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive includes John Eustace on the potential departure of goalkeeper John Ruddy

John Eustace expects John Ruddy to keep goal for Birmingham City in their Championship clash with Leeds United as things stand.

Ruddy is the subject of interest from Premier League newbies Luton Town and reports claim they are in negotiations with Blues over a transfer for the 36-year-old goalkeeper. Ruddy was omitted from the Blues squad which defeated Cheltenham Town in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening, but Eustace insists it wasn’t due to any impending deal.

“That wasn’t the reason he wasn’t in the squad,” said Eustace. “We rested John tonight. Neil (Etheridge) was outstanding. We’ve got young Zach (Jeacock) as well on the bench.

“It’s about using the squad and making everyone feel wanted and special. Last season we showed it was about the squad and that togetherness and this season it will be exactly the same.”

Ruddy played in Blues’ 1-1 draw with Swansea City on Saturday and Eustace plans to field his number one against Leeds. Asked whether he expects Ruddy to play on Saturday as things stand, Eustace replied: “I do, yes.”
