Blackburn Rovers Midfielder Tipped For Premier League Switch
Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton is a target for Premier League side Crystal Palace, as the end of the transfer window creeps closer, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
The 19-year-old has featured heavily for the Championship side so far this season, but Roy Hodgson’s side are keen to land the talented midfielder before the window closes, with Palace having the possibility of adding a sweetener into the deal.
Who is Adam Wharton?
The former England U19s international is a product of Blackburn’s academy and he has risen through the ranks and into a regular member of the first-team squad.
He has made 37 first-team appearances, including 5 this season. He picked up an assist during the 2-2 draw with Rotherham United and started during Sunday’s Championship clash with Watford.
A frustrating start
After a frustrating summer in which Blackburn lost the likes of Ben Brereton-Diaz and Bradley Dack, the club began the Championship campaign with a 2-1 win against West Bromwich Albion, before being held by Rotherham despite a brace from Sammie Szmodics.
However, Harry Pickering was sent off as Blackburn were beaten 2-1 by Hull City and headed into Sunday’s clash with Watford whilst sat in mid-table.
What’s been said?
According to journalist Alan Nixon, Crystal Palace are keen to land Wharton from Blackburn Rovers and could offer winger Jesurun Rak-Sakai on loan as a potential sweetener into the deal.
However, it is also claimed that Blackburn are only interested in a buy-to-loan-back deal, which would allow the Championship side to keep Wharton for the remainder of the campaign.
Writer’s View
Wharton is a talented midfielder and one of the Championship’s most exciting new players. Therefore, it isn’t surprising to see that he has Premier League interest already.
Crystal Palace have a strong reputation for developing young players, such as Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, Scott Banks and Michael Ebiowei and Wharton would be yet another star they have the potential to develop.
