Leeds United transfer news as Bournemouth may revive Tyler Adams move

Leeds United face fresh competition from Premier League side Bournemouth to keep hold of in-demand midfielder Tyler Adams, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported in the print edition of their Match Day pull-out on Saturday [12 August, pg 8] that Bournemouth are looking to revive a deal for Adams after his proposed move to Chelsea fell through.

However, Leeds may still have a fight on their hands keeping the 24-year-old at Elland Road should Bournemouth push through with their reputed interest.

It comes after the Cherries also hijacked a move for Max Aarons after he was set to move to West Yorkshire in midweek, with a double blow now potentially on the cards.

It is little wonder that top-flight teams are showing an interest in talented midfielder Adams, even if Chelsea pulled the plug on a deal at the last minute.

The USA captain’s first season with Leeds may have ended in relegation, but there were plenty of positive signs in terms of his displays in the middle of the park.

Adams ranked joint-10th in the Premier League last season for tackles won with 46, level with Manchester United’s Casemiro [FBref], and he was in the top 3% of all midfielders across Europe’s top five leagues in terms of blocks per 90 (2.06).

Given his reasonable release clause of £20m, it is somewhat surprising a Premier League team – or indeed a side from elsewhere on the continent – has yet to pounce for the former RB Leipzig ace.

With Chelsea’s interest dwindling as they instead turn focus to one or both of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, it may well be that others – Bournemouth among them – now step forward.

Though with Adams reportedly facing up to another four months on the sidelines [Daily Mail] as he recovers from a hamstring problem that scuppered his move to Chelsea, it is understandable that interested clubs are being cautious.

Losing a player of Adams’ quality would be a blow for United as they attempt to navigate their way out of the Championship at the first attempt, but it is a realistic prospect – and one supporters have already come to terms with.

In a rather chaotic period in the transfer window, with a move for full-back Aarons collapsing this week, Daniel Farke will no doubt want a resolution soon so focus can be on the players he has available for the campaign.

And while Wilfried Gnonto’s name may be the one dominating the transfer columns at the moment, Leeds could do with resolving Adams’ future once and for all so everyone can move on.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have now reportedly slapped a £25m price tag on Gnonto amid continued interest from Premier League side Everton.
