According to reports from The Sun and Football Insider, Sheffield Wednesday, Wigan Athletic, Rotherham United and Portsmouth are among the other clubs to be monitoring developments, with the Wales under-21 international seemingly looking set for another stint away following a reasonably successful spell at Forest Green Rovers last term.

Savage has been left out of Erik ten Hag’s squad for Wednesday’s friendly with Lyon in Edinburgh, and there are already doubts over whether he will participate in the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

It’s not yet clear whether any prospective move would be permanent or a loan, although the latter would certainly make more sense from a Cardiff point of view.

The 20-year-old still has nearly two years to run on his current deal at Old Trafford, and the Bluebirds are still unable to pay fees for players until January

Swansea, meanwhile, may well prefer a loan move too, with cash still somewhat tight this summer as Michael Duff continues to rebuild his squad ahead of the new campaign

Savage joined Man Utd’s academy before rising through the ranks to sign his first professional contract in April 2021.

He made his professional debut eight months later, a one-minute cameo off the bench in the Champions League against Young Boys.
