3 Cardiff City players who gave a good account of themselves v Liverpool - The72

Cardiff City player ratings v Porto as Sheyi Ojo impresses and Ramsey shows moments of class on debut

The Bluebirds took on the Portuguese giants at Estadio Algarve

Ryan Allsop 6

Nothing he could do with any of the goals, really. Was generally very good with the ball at his feet, though.

perry Ng 6

Struck up a good partnership with Ojo on the right and put in a typically dogged Perry Ng performance.

Mark McGuinness 6

Was charged down which led to the penalty, but generally an assured display against a top attacking outfit.

Dimitrios Goutas 6

Was unfortunate for the first goal. He slid in and blocked a shot and it fell straight into Toni Martinez’s path again. Had a good tussle with the Porto man and gave as good as he got.

Callum O’Dowda 6

Not as involved as we are accustomed to seeing him, but had one or two bright moments linking up with Grant too.

Ryan Wintle 7

Hit one or two incredible balls over the top. Looked much better when he joined the attack or tried to drive the play forward. Was guilty of handball for the penalty that led to their third.

Joe Ralls 6

Misplaced a pass or two but other than that he kept things ticking over pretty nicely other than that. Went off after less than half an hour with an injury though.

Sheyi Ojo 8 (star man)

Looked really encouraging and tore the left-back, Zaidu, apart. Had one fantastic effort tipped over the bar and another cleared off the line by Zaidu himself. A good outing from the winger.

Callum Robinson 7

Was pretty central to most of the early positivity, linking up with the midfield and the wingers. Just get the sense City would benefit from him playing further up rather than the No.10.

Karlan Grant 7

Another encouraging display from the winger, who got the better of his full back a number of times. Let fly with one or two decent efforts of his own, too.

Ike Ugbo 5

Just didn’t do enough again, especially leading that line on his own. It’s difficult to think of anything particularly noteworthy that he did.

Subs

Ebou Adams (Ralls 29) 6 – Was looking really good until he hit an awful pass which led to Porto’s second. Put in some big tackles, needs to work on the distribution side of things.

Aaron Ramsey (Robinson 46) 7 – Hit the post with almost his first touch and brought a real touch of class and composure on the ball. A few flicks and the way he manipulated the ball was exciting to see in brief moments.

Sheyi Ojo (@sheyi_ojo) / Twitter

Kieron Evans (Grant 67) 6 – Has been impressive in pre-season but just got outmuscled a little when he came on. Did hit one lovely shot which was tipped on to the post. Linked up well with Ramsey a few times.

Mahlon Romeo (Ng 67) 5 – The game was stretched over on his side and he struggled to make a major impact.

Xavier Benjamin (Goutas 75) 4 – Just looks out of his depth playing in this first team at the moment. A howler from him gifted Fran Navarro the ball for his goal.

Kion Etete (Ugbo 75) 5 – Made one lung-bursting run down the wing and won a free-kick. Quiet other than that.

Rubin Colwill (Ojo 75) 5 – Another we saw very little of when he came on, with Porto clearly in the ascendancy by that point. Hit one dangerous, low cross which Evans almost got on the end of.

Andy Rinomhota (Wintle 75) 5 – Spent a lot of time chasing bodies in the middle late on.

Jack Simpson (McGuinness 75) 6 – Had to cover for Benjamin once or twice. Did OK in his short stint.

Jamilu Collins (O’Dowda 75) 5 – Another one still trying to get out of second gear at the moment. Hopefully that ring rust wears off
