Championship manager delighted with ‘very aggressive’ player signed from Leeds in the summer
Adam Forshaw completed a move to Norwich City on a free transfer from Leeds United in the summer after the Whites chose not extend his contract – and David Wagner is delighted with his midfield signing.
Forshaw, 31, left Leeds in the summer after more than five years at the club. But injury hampered the ex-Middlesbrough and Everton man, limiting Forshaw to just 91 games in all competitions for the Whites.
But it came as a surprise, despite his injury issues, to see Forshaw leave Leeds in the summer. Even the player said himself that he wanted to remain at Elland Road – and sign a new contract despite relegation.
Forshaw was invited back for pre-season prior to Daniel Farke’s arrival and by the time Farke had joined, it was clear that Forshaw would not be re-signing. Wagner is delighted to have Forshaw at his disposal.
“I’ve rarely been so impressed of a player, from what I’ve seen. Does everything on purpose, he picks up the right pass, great vision, every pass makes sense, he is very aggressive,” Wagner told The Pink Un.
“If he stays healthy, we have a top signing. If it takes a few days, that is not the most-important thing. We have to keep him healthy. He will hopefully get his first start – he can be a super good player for us.”
Wagner delighted with Forshaw after Norwich move from Leeds
Given our need for central midfielders – which saw Leeds spend close to £20m on Ethan Ampadu, Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev – it would surely have made sense to have kept Forshaw. His injuries are a worry.
That is probably the reason why Leeds chose not to hand Forshaw a new deal. Ampadu has been good, and Kamara and Gruev are seen as very solid additions in the middle. He joins a Championship rival.
Norwich have made a very solid start to the season and it looks as if that they could be up there come the end of the season. So, it might be that Forshaw and Norwich rival Leeds for possible promotion.
