Championship rivals Ipswich Town sign former Man Utd man in time for Sheffield Wednesday clash
Ipswich Town head to Hillsborough on Saturday looking to continue their impressive start to life in the Championship
Ipswich Town have secured the signing of former Manchester United and Napoli man Axel Tuanzebe, with the defender available to make his debut against Sheffield Wednesday next week.
The 25-year-old was a free agent after being released by Erik ten Hag’s side this summer after making 37 appearances for the Red Devils, though he spent much of his senior career out on loan.
Tuanzebe’s best spell came on loan at Aston Villa, where he helped the side win promotion to the Premier League with a play-off final victory over Derby County at Wembley in 2019. Spells with Napoli and Stoke City followed with limited success.

The former England youth international joins an Ipswich Town side in good form, with Paul McKenna’s men heading to Hillsborough on the back of an impressive 3-2 comeback win over Cardiff City last week.
Their fortunes contrast somewhat with those of Sheffield Wednesday. As the Owls continue to search for their first win in the Championship under Xisco Munoz, their fellow promoted side and next opponents sit second in the league having won all but one of their matches since moving up from League One.
And while Tuanzebe could make his first appearance for the Tractor Boys against the Owls on Saturday, boss McKenna hinted his new signing may have to be patient before making his debut.
“We want to build him up in a sensible way and get him back to his best condition,” McKenna told the club website. “If we do that we feel we could have a very valuable asset for the team.”
