Coventry City boss issues clear message to summer loan man following arrival of Liam Kitching

Luis Binks could be forgiven for wondering whether he has made the right move in joining Coventry City on loan from Italian club Bologna this summer.

The highly-rated 22-year-old joined the Sky Blues last month to help fill the left central defensive berth following the returns of last season’s impressive loan duo Callum Doyle and Jonathan Panzo. But since joining the CBS Arena, Joel Latibeaudiere – drafted in from Swansea to compete on the right – has started the campaign to the left of central figure Kyle McFadzean and quickly established himself in the back three, leaving Binks stuck on the bench.

Then on transfer deadline day Mark Robins shelled out around £4.5million on Barnsley skipper Liam Kitching, a ready-made left footed centre-half with Championship experience. So where does that leave Binks?

“I know Luis hasn’t played yet and I am sure he will be feeling a little bit, ‘what’s happening,’ but he shouldn’t feel like that because there will be plenty of opportunities for everyone,” explained the City manager, who encouraged competition between young defenders Doyle and Panzo who shared the position last season

“We did the same last year with Panz and Doyler and that changed over time and things started to work themselves out. Luis has just got to bide his time a little bit and not get frustrated otherwise that will have an impact and it will take him longer. But ultimately he’s a really good player and he’s going to be knocking on the door, there’s no doubt.”

He added: “We have got to this first international break and we know what he squad is going to be and we have to try to be the best we can be, which is just going to take a little bit of time.”
