Coventry City pair prepared for ‘all sorts’ in Cardiff City reunion

Coventry City news from CoventryLive as the Sky Blues prepare to travel to face Cardiff City on Tuesday night

Coventry City defenders Joel Latibeaudiere and Jake Bidwell can expect dog’s abuse from Cardiff fans tomorrow night.

It’s all part of the intense and bitter local rivalry that the Swansea old boys experienced at first hand during their time in South Wales.

Centre-back Latibeaudiere featured in four South Wales derbies during his time at the Liberty Stadium, enjoying success on every occasion, including a couple of humiliating 4-0 and 3-0 scorelines, while wing-back Bidwell has played in four and been on the winning team on three of those occasions, including scoring a goal in a 3-0 home victory in 2021.

Cardiff, however, go into tomorrow night’s clash with the Sky Blues on a high after Saturday’s 2-0 Cardiff City Stadium win over the Swans – only the Bluebirds’ second Championship success so far this term – and will, no doubt, be hoping that result kick-starts their season.

Although a Coventry player now, Latibeaudiere still feels part of that rivalry as he prepares to head down to enemy territory again. Asked if he’s expecting to get a stack of abuse from the home fans, he admitted: “I’m gonna get all sorts, but I love all that

“Don’t get me wrong. I’ve been part of four times being on the right end of the scoreline against them so hopefully I can make it five.”

The Jamaican international, who scored his first goal for Coventry on Friday night when he headed the Sky Blues into the lead at Hull, said after the 1-1 draw that he planned to watch Saturday’s

South Wales derby when he would be supporting his former club, saying he hoped the Swans would win and then Coventry go and get another three points off them on Tuesday night.

“That’d be brilliant,” he said. “Perfect job.”
