Coventry City transfer twist as club stance revealed after surprise claim

Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as reported Norwich interest in Sky Blues star Kasey Palmer is dismissed

Reports that Norwich are ready to make a late swoop for Coventry City’s Kasey Palmer have been categorically dismissed in Norfolk.

The in-form Sky Blues playmaker has transformed his game since joining the CBS Arena from Bristol City last summer, becoming a key creative and attacking figure for Mark Robins’ side.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano claimed on Monday that the 26-year-old, who played under Canaries’ boss David Wagner in Huddersfield’s promotion from the Championship in 2017, is a player of interest.

But Norwich City’s football editor at the Eastern Daily Press, Paddy Davitt, insists the Championship promotion favourites have “no intention” of bidding for Palmer ahead of Friday’s 11pm deadline.

He writes that the link first surfaced after US international Josh Sargent suffered suspected ankle ligament damage in opening the scoring on Saturday in a 4-0 Championship win at Huddersfield.

Canaries’ head coach Wagner indicated immediately after the game he had forward options within his squad, while they assess the full extent of Sargent’s lay-off.

Romano suggested the Canaries may look to test the Sky Blues’ resolve ahead of Friday’s transfer finale.

Wagner is expected to provide a fitness update on Sargent after the Canaries’ League Cup trip to Bristol City on Tuesday.

The German initially labelled it a ‘serious’ injury, with Sargent leaving Huddersfield with his swollen right ankle in a protective boot ahead of further scans.

Ashley Barnes and Adam Idah both notched in the Terriers’ rout, which prompted Wagner to insist he had goalscoring options in his group rather than look to bring anyone else in at this late stage of the window.

“I don’t think so. I think we are covered in this area quite well,” he said. “You’ve seen Adam in this game. He has done fantastic. Ashley is in top form. Liam (Gibbs) can play in that area of the pitch, like Nacho (Marcelino Nunez) and (Przemyslaw) Placheta. We are quite well covered. Obviously. Josh is a top, top player for us.

He is in top form as well and this hurts if we will miss him for a longer period. But this happens to every team. Now we have to look, assess him, and hopefully it isn’t super serious, or not as serious as it looks like.

“But I don’t think that we have to be busy in this transfer window because of this injury.

“It’s quite swollen. It looks like a serious ankle injury. We have to assess it further. We need a follow up scan, for sure, and then we know more in the next upcoming days how serious it is.”
