Daniel Farke lifts the lid on chat with Georginio Rutter in quest for Leeds United goals
The Leeds United forward has struggled for goals since moving to Elland Road
Leeds United boss Daniel Farke believes Georginio Rutter is overthinking when it comes to scoring goals. The Frenchman opened his account for the Whites in brilliant fashion against Ipswich Town but missed a good chance to add another to his tally against Sheffield Wednesday.
Rutter arrived for big money from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, tasked with being the man to score the goals to keep Leeds United in the Premier League. The 21-year-old has shown flashes of quality during his short stay so far, but Farke has revealed he’s spoken with the forward to alleviate any pressure.
“No, I think what is for him that he’s not injured, that he’s fit, he comes into his rhythm and I think he has performance was improved last weekend at Ipswich,” Farke said. “He is actually in a really good shape.
“I was a striker as well, you can’t really explain. So sometimes you have times when you find it unbelievably difficult to use your chances to score and sometimes you just have to look at the ball and the ball goes in anyhow and you can’t you can’t really explain and it feels a bit like Georginio is a bit in this in this period.
But I spoke to him and told him ‘listen, the solution is not to overthink things too much. When you have a situation, when you find it difficult to bring the ball in the back of the net, then don’t try to be too artificial in your approach.’
“It’s more or less like it doesn’t have to look great, it just has to find the back of the net I got the feeling so he used for example, the lobbing the goalkeeper, a bit too complicated situation. So, in such a situation it’s always about like come on, you have to be there was a brutal finish and then sometimes the ball goes deflected in and then the curse is broken.
“He’s still a young lad and always still a young player has to develop this attitude as well during the tough times, not to overthink or to feel sorry for himself and try to be there with a world class goal like for example last week. I want to go for clinical brutal finish and this is what he has to learn and will learn but all strikers have sometimes the spirits, I’m happy that we’re all happy that we have him.”
