Big update on Leeds United appointing Daniel Farke - sources

Middlesbrough loanee Sam Greenwood may never play for Leeds United again

Sam Greenwood, who is out on loan at Middlesbrough this season may never play for Leeds United again amid Phil Hay’s update.

The Athletic journalist reported on Monday (9 October) that Boro can exercise the option to buy the 21-year-old for just £1.5million.

This is the same amount that the Whites paid for him three years ago when they secured his services from Arsenal.

Thus far, Greenwood has made 25 Premier League appearances for Leeds and many more in other competitions as well.

Many believed he would be a first-team regular at Elland Road in the coming years but that does not seem to be the case any more.

Jesse Marsch rated him highly and even gave him an extended run in the first team and his versatility was something that came in hand on numerous occasions.

Even Marcelo Bielsa had been complimentary of the Englishman but the ball is now in Boro’s court.

He’s performed decently in the Premier League so there’s no reason to believe he cannot do the same in the Championship as well.

They have until the end of the season to exercise that option and it seems like if he has a good campaign there, he would not mind joining permanently so he could’ve already played his last game for Leeds.
