Daniel Farke provides update on Leeds’ Sam Byram after first half injury
Daniel Farke has confirmed Sam Byram will not be involved in Leeds United’s trip to Salford City on Tuesday.
Farke was speaking in his post-match press conference after Leeds‘ 4-3 win at Ipswich Town in which Byram was substituted midway through the first half.
Byram had started well in the match and even provided the assist for Wilfried Gnonto’s goal, who put Leeds 2-1 ahead after going behind early on.
The 29-year-old signed on a free transfer in the summer after proving his fitness during pre-season, though injuries have been a frequent concern throughout his recent career.
His absence will leave Farke slightly short at left-back, with Leeds having struggled in that position after he went off.
Farke provides Byram injury update
Farke has not confirmed how long Byram is expected to be out for but has already ruled him out of the Carabao Cup second round trip to Salford.
He said: “Byram adductor strain and won’t be used Tuesday.”
His injury could force Leeds into the market for a new left-back with Junior Firpo’s future still uncertain and the ongoing fitness issue of his own.
Cody Drameh was the man to replace Byram today but was withdrawn at half-time after enduring a nightmare 20 minutes out of position.
Jamie Shackleton then replaced him at the break, but again is not a natural left-back and his reluctance to use Leo Hjelde could be a telling tale that Farke is not keen on using him there.
