New Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans on returning to Houston: 'It was a no-brainer to be here'

DeMeco Ryans Reveals Key Reason For Denver Broncos Turnaround

The Houston Texans are set to host a revitalized Denver Broncos team on Sunday, and they are in for a challenge against a team that seems to have established an identity halfway through the season.

Denver started the season 1-5 before rattling off five straight wins to get its record to 6-5 and reenter the playoff race. Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans was made available to the media this week where he highlighted what he believes has been a key factor in the Broncos’ midseason turnaround.

“The biggest thing that I’ve seen from the Broncos and how they’ve turned things around is how their defense is attacking the football,” Ryans said. “When you take the ball away as many times as they have, I think they have over 13, 14 turnovers – when you do that, you set the offense up, you set the team up for success. And that’s where it starts with these guys.”

Ryans is a defensive guy, one who spent 10 years in the NFL as a linebacker. It makes sense that defense would be the first thing he notices about Denver’s improvement, but some of it comes down to attack and attitude as well.

“They fly around, they’re physical,” Ryans said. “They attack the football. When it comes to the running game, on their offensive side, that’s where I feel like their strengths are. They’ve done a really good job.”

Sunday’s game between Denver and Houston will have a large impact on the AFC playoff race. Both teams are “on the bubble” of the discussion with a 6-5 record entering Week 13, and whoever wins will hold the tiebreaker over the other team when playoff seeding is eventually decided at season’s end.

The Texans are looking to rebound from a difficult loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week and snap Denver’s winning streak. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. CT on Sunday, and the game will be televised on CBS.
