Dennis Praet, Conor Coady – Leicester City injury update as Enzo Maresca’s side hit with big blow

Injury news ahead of Leicester City’s Championship fixture against Hull City, with midfielder Dennis Praet ruled out for potentially three months with a back concern

Leicester City have been hit by a big injury blow with midfielder Dennis Praet ruled out for three months with a back injury.

Praet has missed the past three games in all competitions for City since starting in their 1-0 away win over Huddersfield, and he is unlikely to be seen again until late November with a serious back issue.

It also rules out a late transfer for the Belgian, who only had a year remaining on his deal at the club and so would have been a contender to go had a late offer been made for him.

Asked for an update on Praet’s fitness, manager Enzo Maresca said at his press conference on Friday afternoon: “It’s an important injury. It’s probably between 10 and 12 weeks. It’s his back. He’s the only one.”

That makes Praet one of three players on the sidelines for City, alongside Alex Smithies and Conor Coady, with no fresh concerns for Maresca to deal with. In good news, Coady should be back in training after the upcoming international break.

The defender, who is yet to make his competitive debut for the club after breaking his foot in pre-season, has been travelling with the squad home and away, and had been wearing a protective boot until recently. He is still on course to be available to play by the end of September.

“He’s good,” Maresca said on Coady. “He’s very close, probably after the international break he can finally join us in the sessions and day by day.

“He’s been huge to be honest. He’s been in almost every day with us and has been to every game home and away so he has shown exactly what he is in terms of leadership and team building. He’s always there. It’s fantastic.”
