Sean Dyche to have Everton problem he has been dreaming about very soon

Sean Dyche will “have the problem he has long dreamed of” when Everton return to action after the international break, according to Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas.

Everton have collected just one point from their first four Premier League games, coming in a 2-2 draw at Sheffield United on Saturday [2 September].

However, the two-week break will give the Toffees a chance to get previously injured players – namely Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin – back fully up to speed.

Writing for the Liverpool Echo’s online edition on Monday [4 September], Thomas said: “Sean Dyche is likely to have the problem he has long dreamed of when it comes to selecting Everton’s next starting XI.

“The international break has arrived at a good time as a long list of players were unavailable for the trip to Sheffield United.

“When he chooses how to line-up against Arsenal in just under a fortnight he will have far more options. Chief among his thoughts will be whether to start Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beto – or both.”

Sean Dyche believes relaxed Dwight McNeil has 'got his shoulders back' | The Independent

Even accounting for the draw at Bramall Lane at the weekend, it has been a poor start to the campaign for Everton.

The biggest issue up until the four-goal draw with Sheffield United had been an inability to put the ball in the back of the net.

That is why getting Calvert-Lewin back to fitness is so key for Dyche. The England international sustained a facial injury in the 4-0 loss to Aston Villa on 20 August and has not played since.

McNeil has just 15 minutes of action to his name this season, meanwhile, so Dyche will also be eager to get him back to peak form and fitness.

It means that Everton’s starting line-up against Arsenal on 17 September could have a different look to it.

The big question, of course, is whether Dyche goes with fit-again Calvert-Lewin and Beto up top in tandem, or select one over the other?

Either way, goals will surely not be as hard to come by with McNeil, Calvert-Lewin and Beto all in the side.

In other Everton news, another development has emerged in the transfer saga involving Demarai Gray.
