Enzo Maresca’s abandoned £15m plan revealed after Leicester City transfer failure

The latest Leicester City news as the club were said to be working on a deal for the prolific Georgian striker during the summer transfer window.

Leicester City missed out on a move for striker Georges Mikautadze in the summer transfer window, due to their failure to move on a striker, according to reports.

City did add to their striking options on deadline day with the late signing of Tom Cannon, who joined on a permanent deal from Everton. City will pay a fee of up to £7.5 million for the 20-year-old.

He was City’s ninth new arrival of the summer as Enzo Maresca rebuilt the squad following relegation to the Championship at the end of last season. But it seems that there could have been another new arrival, should City have been able to move on another striker.

According to the Sun journalist Alan Nixon, via Patreon , City were working on a deal to bring Georgian international Georges Mikautadze to the King Power Stadium in a £15 million deal. But in order for a deal to go through, a striker had to first leave the club.

Both Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho were linked with moves away, with Daka close to a deadline day move to Bournemouth before a deal fell through with just one hour of the transfer window remaining. Even if that deal had gone through, it would have been too late for City’s hopes of signing Mikautadze.

The 22-year-old officially completed a move to Dutch giants Ajax on August 30, for a fee of €16 million (£13.7m), rising to €19 million (£16.2m). The interest in the striker comes after he scored 24 times for Metz last season, helping the French club earn promotion to Ligue 1, his form continued at the start of the season, scoring twice in his first three games before completing a move to Ajax.
