Everton transfer news as Willy Gnonto agrees personal terms
Everton have agreed personal terms with Leeds United attacker Willy Gnonto, with a five-year deal agreed, with the player’s priority to move to Goodison Park, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Romano shared via Twitter on 10 August that the reason Gnonto made himself unavailable for Leeds’ midweek Carabao Cup fixture was that he has reached an agreement with Everton and will look to push through a move.
It had previously been reported that Leeds were confident of keeping the Italian forward at Elland Road for the upcoming season, and they may still if the clubs cannot agree on a fee, but with personal terms completed the deal could soon follow.
Everton finally look like landing their top target
Rumours surrounding Gnonto’s future have been rife this summer since Everton reportedly made him their priority target, although Leeds’ reluctance to sell and high asking price made things complicated.
After agreeing to personal terms, it looks like Gnonto may force through a deal, although journalist Phil Hay shared that the Italian is expected to be in the Yorkshire club’s squad for their Championship trip to Birmingham on 12 August after missing the midweek fixture.
Everton have been looking to improve their firepower this summer after scoring just 34 goals in the Premier League last season, the second-worst tally in the league, and the 19-year-old Gnonto has been viewed as the long-term solution to their problems.
The deal will also see the Toffees kill two birds with one stone, as they look to bring in new strikers and wingers, as Gnonto can play both positions effectively. As things stand, Everton have just two fit wingers in their squad, with Gnonto now likely to slot in there.
