Everton in talks with Manchester United over deal for  Hannibal Mejbri, – The Athletic

Everton have held talks with Manchester United over the availability of midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, according to The Athletic.

Laurie Whitwell reported on the reliable news source’s transfer blog on Wednesday [30 August] that Sevilla have also approached United over the Tunisia international.

It is claimed that the Red Devils consider the 20-year-old as a player who has the potential to make an impression this season.

While United have high hopes for Hannibal, however, Whitwell reports that he may still be loaned out again before the transfer window closes.

Bright future

Despite being aged just 20, Hannibal has already played three times for United in the Premier League and been capped 24 times by his country at senior level.

The youngster caught the eye during a season on loan in the Championship with Birmingham City last time out when making 38 appearances.

However, Hannibal has not been included in any of Erik ten Hag’s squads this season, with 18-year-old Dan Gore instead being named among the substitutes against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

It seems unlikely that the Tunisian will be given too many first-team opportunities this season, so another year away from Old Trafford does make sense.

Everton

Everton would certainly not say no to some extra bite in the middle of the park, especially when there is no real risk involved.

If Hannibal is indeed considered a player who has a future first-team role to play under Ten Hag, then this is a loan deal that makes sense from the Toffees’ perspective.

If that does prove the case, let’s just hope Hannibal has more of an impact at Goodison Park than fellow United loanee Donny van de Beek.

In other Everton news, Darren Bent rubbished suggestions that the Toffees can still be considered a “massive” club.
