Everton prepare bid to sign Maxwel Cornet from West Ham United in affordable move to reunite with Sean Dyche

Everton are now “preparing an offer” for West Ham winger Maxwel Cornet on a season-loan move, according to The Telegraph.

The report on the paper’s website Thursday (31 August) notes that Demarai Gray could still leave before the deadline and would leave a “hole” in the attack which the Ivorian could fill, having been a Toffees target last summer before his move to the London Stadium.

The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath reports that the 26-year-old “would fit into their budget this summer with minimal outlay for the loan” should he reunite with his former Burnley boss Sean Dyche at Goodison Park.

Everton have managed to get their headline deal done before the deadline with the completion of Beto’s £25million move from Udinese just in time for him to score on his debut against Doncaster Rovers on Wednesday night (30 August).

Dyche was expected to still target further cheap arrivals following the Portuguese striker and has been looking at wide men all summer.

There is a distinct sense within the Toffees’ business this summer that the club are looking to right some of the wrongs of previous windows, with both Beto and Arnaut Danjuma secured after failed pursuits in January.

And if they manage to land Cornet it would mean success a year late after going after him under Frank Lampard last summer.

Gray’s exit has been on the cards for weeks, and since it is Saudi Arabia that is the most likely destination he has the best part of three weeks to complete that move, and now Alex Iwobi is also looking close to an exit.

So that likely explains why Dyche spent so long trying to get Willy Gnonto from Leeds United, even after he brought in his Elland Road teammate Jack Harrison.

And with the likes of Kamaldeen Sulemana also wanted it looks like with striker finally addressed with both a senior and a junior option this summer it is wingers above all that are now targets.

Cornet stood out under Dyche even as the manager’s long stint at Turf Moor came to an end and the Clarets were relegated last season, so if he gets to work under him again on Merseyside there would be hope he can recreate that.

In other Everton news, a new update has emerged on potentially “game-changing” investment at the club following MSP Sports Capital pulling out.
