Demarai Gray passes medical in London to exit Everton permanently, £90,000-a-week deal agreed

Everton winger Demarai Gray has completed his medical with Al-Ettifaq and is expected to finalise his move to the Saudi Arabian club in the next 48 hours, according to Asharq Al-Awsat.

The Arabic news source reported on its online edition on Sunday [3 August] that Gray underwent the medical in London.

Gray will sign a three-or-four-year contract with Al-Ettifaq on a reputed salary of around $6million (£4.8m) a year, which is also the same amount Everton will receive for the transfer.

Finally

Everton had been looking to get Gray off their books this summer, but no move went through prior to the transfer window closing for European clubs on Friday [1 September].

A move to Saudi or Turkey remained open, though, and a deal now looks set to go through at some point early next week.

The move is hardly out of the blue, as Gray had also previously been linked with another Saudi Pro League side in Al-Shabab.

The transfer fee may not be the largest, but it ensures Gray’s wages are off the books and Everton can now move on.

Gray enjoyed a solid enough first campaign at Goodison after joining from Leicester City in July 2021, scoring five Premier League goals and assisting four more, but he contributed to just five goals last season.

With this exit, it looks likely that Everton’s transfer business is belatedly finished for the year.

It is now over to Sean Dyche to work with what he has with the aim of keeping Everton in the top flight.

In other Everton news, Ian Wright was left awestruck by a player in the Toffees’ draw against Sheffield United.
