Imps Star Wins Goal of the Month Award
Sometimes, you know a goal is special as soon as it leaves a player’s boot, and summer signing Reeco Hackett scored a special one against Northampton Town last month.
His sumptuous strike from range put us 1-0 up in a game that we should have gone on to win, but in the end drew 2-2.
Still, it was a sweet moment for the former Portsmouth man. Northampton keeper Max Thompson was poised for any shot that Hackett might unleash. Any shot, that is, other than an instant fizzing half-volley off the outside of his left foot.
Hackett said: “I’m really happy to have picked up this award, and it means a lot the fans have gone out of their way to vote for me to win it. I’ve settled into the group really well and August was a really strong month for us. I think we picked up a lot of good points and made some great progress in the Carabao Cup too.”
Hackett has thrived since his move from the south coast and has just arrived back from the international break with a second goal in as many games for his country. Of course, a long haul flight back isn’t ideal prep for tomorrow’s game, but Hackett is ready to kick on.
“I was happy to get on the scoresheet as well for Saint Lucia during the international break, and now I’m ready to kick on again for Lincoln.”
Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman said: “When the ball is drilled into Hackett in a central position by Ethan Erhahon, I’m pretty confident that he didn’t intend his touch to bounce upwards, but it was this touch which allowed him the perfect opportunity to adjust his feet and strike the ball on the half volley.
“There was no doubting the quality of the powerful but controlled strike with the outside of his left boot, which is a difficult technique, but it left the Northampton keeper rooted to the spot.”
Hackett beat off competition from Carlisle United’s Owen Moxon, Wigan Athletic’s Callum McManaman, and Oxford United’s exciting prospect Tyler Goodrham.
