Former Stockport County Forward Suffers Devastating Blow

Altrincham forward Olly Crankshaw has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, after sustaining an ACL injury, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.

The 25-year-old joined the club from Stockport County towards the end of August, but after just two matches for his new side, he will now face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Who is Olly Crankshaw?

The winger began his career in the Non-League scene, before linking up with Wigan Athletic in January 2019. He rose through the ranks with the club, before leaving for spells with Bradford City and Stockport County.

He finished the 2022/23 campaign with SPFL side Motherwell on loan, before being sold by Stockport County shortly before the transfer window came to an end. He’s featured twice for Altrincham in the National League this season but won’t feature again until pre-season next year.

After a promising debut, Crankshaw started during Saturday’s trip to Barnet. Unfortunately, the winger hobbled off the pitch just before half-time and scan results have sadly confirmed the news that he will miss the next nine months of action.

What’s worse is that Altrincham went on to lose 3-0 to Barnet, after Zak Brunt and Nicke Kabamba added further goals, following Danny Collinge’s opener.

News of Crankshaw’s injury is further stressful due to several other players being on the sideline for the club. Star forward Regan Linney won’t require surgery but will miss several weeks due to a knee injury.

What’s been said?

There has been no official statement as of yet, however, the club did post a short statement during their news post, stating…

‘Manager Phil Parkinson, his coaching and backroom staff and the entire squad will rally round Olly and give him all the support he needs as he starts out on the path back to full fitness.

Crankshaw played a huge role for Stockport County during his two-year spell with the club and the news of his injury will be a major blow to his new side as well as fans of the player.

Altrincham had started the season strongly but has now been dealt with a major setback, amongst other injuries within their squad, applying more pressure onto the other attacking options such as Dior Angus in the team.
