Ipswich Town: Sam Morsy wins Player of the Month award for August
Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy has won the Greene King Player of the Month award for August.
The midfielder secured 46.8% of the vote, finishing ahead of Vaclav Hladky, Leif Davis and Conor Chaplin, who ended up second, third and fourth respectively.
Morsy has played a vital role in Town’s midfield, bringing his Championship experience to a team that has largely remained unchanged since securing promotion from League One.
He has two assists already this season, setting up Luke Woolfenden with a free-kick against Stoke City before playing Nathan Broadhead through on goal against Cardiff City.
He has also been praised for his sensational tackle on Manolis Siopsis during Saturday’s win against the Bluebirds, but there are concerns that he may have injured his hamstring in the process.
Morsy is expected to go on international duty with Egypt this week, having earned a call up for the first time since 2018. The Pharaohs will host Ethiopia in an AFCON qualifying match on Friday before travelling to Tunisia for a friendly game next Tuesday
